The Benefits of Remodeling Your Home
You are looking around your home wondering if you should modify your 1970’s kitchen and bathroom to something more modern. You are wondering; Is it worth the money? Should I or shouldn’t I remodel my home? I’ve been living like this for 10 years, why should I change things now?
No need to look any further. Here are a few tips on the benefits of updating your home. Well of course the first question home owners ask themselves is; will this remodel project add value to the home? The answer is–it depends on what you are changing in your home. Kitchens, bathrooms and new front doors add the most bang for your buck. According to Remodeling magazine’s annual Cost vs. Value Report for 2014, a new front door adds an average of 96.6% of the amount spent to the value of your home, and kitchen remodel jobs add 82.7% of the project’s cost back to the home’s value. Remember, it has to be the right door and the right remodel job. If you are adding a $10,000 door to a $100,000 home or a $25,000 bathroom to an $80,000 home then you will not retrieve the value back when you sell your home. So, remodel carefully.
Most people remodel their homes for a lifestyle change. They may need more space, want to change an unused bedroom to an office or playroom, enlarge the kitchen for friends and family to gather or add a room to accommodate parents moving in or a growing family. There are numerous reasons why homes need to be renovated. To adapt to your lifestyle changes, your home will need to be improved. It is cheaper to remodel a few rooms in your home then to buy a new house.
Reducing repair costs is another benefit to renovating your home. Replacing a leaky roof will avoid later water damage inside your home, replacing old windows and doors will reduce electricity costs and add energy efficiency to your home. Changing out old appliances will also increase energy efficiency. You will be saved from losing hundreds of dollars in damaged food if your refrigerator breaks, or a flood if your washing machine or dishwasher breaks. Adding new insulation, and checking and cleaning your ductwork and vents will save costs on utility bills, and keep your home at a comfortable temperature.
The greatest benefit of remodeling your home is for your own happiness. Most home owners are ecstatic after their home is renovated. They feel accomplished in the fact that they tackled a big project and completed it. You can choose any color pattern and materials to design your remodeling project the way you like it. The finished project should be beautiful, elegant and a good fit for your lifestyle and taste.
So I say take the plunge! Why not? Create a beautiful home for yourself that will be more energy efficient, have lower repair costs, and have an increased value when completed. Remodeling can be stressful, and it is difficult to live in a home under construction. If you choose the right company to help you maneuver through the trials and tribulations of remodeling your home, it will make the adjustment easier and lower your stress levels.
